Document Automation – The Economical and Environmental Impact
Reducing CO2 and saving treesAssuming that regular printer paper is used, the 1.4 billion pages weighs 6000-7000 tons. According to the European organization for the paper industry, CEPI, each ton of paper product use 0.34 tons of CO2 (Ref CEPI: Sustainability report 2007). Consequently, ReadSoft customers help reduce CO2 emissions by more than 2000 tons per year. According to www.timbercorp.com.au, a tree produces 22,500 pages of paper. This means that ReadSoft software saves around 3000 trees per year. Moderate numbersAs mentioned, we have chosen a moderate number of average copies per invoice. We have also not included appendices. CO2 emissions from the electrical energy required to print the paper copies or the energy needed to transport the paper documents is not included in these calculations either. The decreased need to transport invoices physically is probably a substantial CO2-saver in itself. ReadSoft plants 100 tree on behalf of its customersReadSoft has partnered with Rainforest Rescue to participate in a rainforest replanting project in the Daintree. ReadSoft plants 100 rainforest trees on behalf of customers that implement the ReadSoft AP automation solution and who exceed processing volumes of 100,000 invoices per year.
